The Current Active Duty CS2 Map Pool And Reserve Map Pool
There are several maps in both the active duty and reserve map pools in CS2. Each one is built differently and accommodates a specific preferred playstyle. Some are better suited for counter terrorists, whereas others are good for terrorists.
Anubis
Anubis is a stunning bomb defusal map inspired by Ancient Egypt. Originally a community creation, it worked its way into CS2’s competitive scene. This map brings bright visuals, detailed carvings, and a beautiful layout full of sneaky paths and open battles. With multiple pathways, open areas, and clever flanking routes, Anubis rewards smart rotations and team coordination. It was added after several tweaks and now offers many ways to attack or defend. Whether pushing through tunnels or fighting for mid-control, Anubis keeps you on your toes.
Train
Train has finally returned to CS2’s active duty map pool, and fans couldn’t be happier! This classic map now looks more realistic, with gritty updated textures and even rain effects in some areas. Controlling the Middle, Z Connector, and the Upper Platforms is crucial. The A site is more open now, which means faster fights and higher risks. From controlling the mid to sneaky push through Ivy and Popdog, Train offers non-stop action and clever plays for both new and veteran players. Train is truly back in style!
Ancient
Ancient is a beautiful jungle-themed map shining even more after the Source 2 upgrade. Full of greenery, puddles, and ancient stone structures, it feels fresh but still very competitive. While it used to favor CTs, recent updates balanced the fights between CTs and Ts. Winning on Ancient is about controlling the middle of the map and smart rotations between sites. A must-learn map for serious players!
Inferno
Inferno is one of the most loved maps in CS history, and it looks even better now with the Source 2 update. The streets feel wider, the cobblestones are brighter, and every corner is full of life. Its narrow alleys, open bombsites, and tight corners make it a perfect map for innovative strategies and aggressive plays. If you want to improve your skills, learning the Banana, Mid, and Balcony areas is a must on Inferno! And yes, good teamwork is the secret to winning here.
Dust 2 (Dust II)
Dust 2 is the heart of Counter-Strike, known even outside the gaming world. In CS2, it stays true to its classic layout but with better lighting and clearer visuals. With simple paths like Long A, Catwalk, and Tunnels, it’s an excellent map for all skill levels. Whether you're holding mid with an AWP or rushing B, Dust 2 never disappoints and always rewards sharp shooting and smart movement.
Nuke
Nuke is one of the most challenging maps in CS2, and it’s had a significant visual upgrade. With two bomb sites on different floors, smart movement and good teamwork are super important. The Outside and Ramp areas are key spots to control. Even after so many updates, nuke is still very CT-sided, but it’s a great map if you want to test your skills and learn deeper strategies. It’s a perfect map for players who love clever tactics and fast thinking.
Mirage
Mirage is one of the most popular maps in CS2, and it looks even better now with Source 2. The palace area shines with bright tiles, making the whole map more colorful and alive. The layout, however, stays the same, focusing on critical areas like A Site and B Site. It’s a balanced map and offers both sides many options to attack, defend, and surprise their opponents. If you master Mid control and learn smart flanks, you can easily make big plays on Mirage!
Office
Office is a classic hostage rescue map that feels fresh with the Source 2 update. The new glass-shattering effects look amazing, making every fight feel intense. Although it looks better, the layout remains unchanged. CTs still have a big advantage because of their strong hostage positions. With narrow hallways and small rooms, Office is all about close fights and quick reactions.
Overpass
Overpass has received a massive upgrade in CS2, and it feels like a brand-new map. The German park looks brighter and more colorful, with realistic water puddles and balloons on the party benches! Once dark and tricky, the underpass is now well-lit and easier to fight in. Overpass still offers long sightlines, so careful movement and good use of smoke are very important here.
Basalt
Basalt is a beautiful volcanic map set in a rugged Icelandic environment. With tight choke points, open bombsites, and vertical levels, it offers a good mix of close-range fights and smart flanks. CS2’s lighting upgrades make Basalt shine with vibrant colors. It's a map that challenges your positioning and teamwork while giving you some stunning scenery.
Vertigo
Vertigo is a construction site-themed map famous for its tall buildings and tricky ledges. The gameplay is vertical, so players must watch above and below. Although the layout hasn’t changed much in CS2, the lighting is better now. Control over Mid, A Ramp, and B Site is super important. While some players find it tough, Vertigo offers lots of chances for smart strategies and bold plays.
Italy
Italy is a classic hostage rescue map set in a charming old town with narrow streets and small alleys. It is great for intense close-range fights but also offers some spots for long-range plays. Players must move carefully through markets and tight pathways and use both vertical and horizontal spaces wisely. With its beauty and tactical gameplay mix, Italy remains a favorite choice for casual and competitive matches.
Edin
Edin is a new bomb-defusal map located in rainy Edinburgh. The map mixes multi-level buildings and long sightlines, making it ideal for snipers and strategic players. A Site is small and intense, while B Site is wide open with many entrances. Controlling angles and working as a team is key here. Edin’s cool mix of city streets and multi-level fights keeps every round exciting.

Workshop Maps
If you have a friend with a knack for creating maps with creative spawn points, planting capture points, planting zones, developing strategic bomb sites, and more, you can refer to Steam's workshop platform for him. The app's utility feature allows players to unleash their creativity to create custom content for games like CS2. This is the best place to go if you ever want to create custom content for CS2.
Arms Race Maps
Valve released the Arms Race mode back in 2024. As of today, we have a total of 3 CS2 maps here:
- Baggage
- Shoots
- Pool Day
The pool day is the latest addition to this list. It is a remake of the 1.6 map: fy_pool_day.
