Upon launch, Marvel Rivals attracted a large number of players. Even non-Marvel fans found themselves playing this unique superhero game. It is the latest 6v6 team-based hero shooter game by NetEase that launched with 33 unique Marvel superheroes to choose from. Like any competitive game, Marvel Rivals offers both ranked and unranked modes. However, to play ranked, you must reach level 10 in the game.

Once you unlock ranked, you can start ascending the rank ladder. If you're coming from Valorant or Overwatch, know that Marvel Rivals ranks work differently. While you can always make use of Marvel Rivals boosting to quickly reach the highest rank in the game, grinding your way through has its own appeal. With that said, let's get you equipped with everything you need to know about Marvel Rivals ranks and the game's competitive mode.

Marvel Rivals Competitive Ranks - Explained

all marvel rivals ranks

Marvel Rivals ranks span across eight different divisions. The bronze rank is considered the lowest whereas One Above All is the highest. Except for the top two highest ranks, each rank has 3 tiers denoted by Roman numbers i (higher end), ii (middle ground), and iii (lower end). 100 points are needed to jump from one rank tier to the next.

Here is the complete list of all Marvel Rivals ranks in increasing order of value:

  • Bronze III, Brone II, Bronze I
  • Silver III, Silver II, Silver I
  • Gold III, Gold II, Gold I
  • Platinum III, Platinum II, Platinum I
  • Diamond III, Diamond II, Diamond I
  • Grandmaster III, Grandmaster II, Grandmaster I
  • Eternity
  • One Above All

Note: Once all the players in any match are Diamond III or above, they will have the ability to ban one hero before the match starts.

Understanding Marvel Rivals Competitive Mode Rewards

In Marvel Rivals competitive, you earn rewards toward the conclusion of a season. The hero shooter game launched with Season 0 and developers already confirmed that players will receive rewards according to their ranks. For season 0, the developers said the reward will contain a Golden Moonlight costume for the Marvel hero, Moon Knight.

Unfortunately, there are no rewards for the bronze and silver rank players. Starting from Gold III and all the way up to Diamond I, players will receive a golden moonlight costume for the superhero Moon Knight. And that's not the end yet. There are additional competitive rewards for players ranking Grandmaster III and above.

In addition to the golden moonlight costume for moon knight, these players will also have their nameplates adorned with a silver crest of honor except for the One Above All player. It is the highest rank achieved by any player, and to differentiate them from the rest of the playerbase properly, they will have a gold crest of honor instead of a silver crest of honor nameplate.

As seen above, it's safe to assume that there will be more competitive rewards in Marvel Rivals toward the end of each upcoming season. While it is the golden moonlight costume for the Moon Knight hero this time, we hope to see cosmetic skin rewards for other heroes shortly.

What Are Eternity and One Above All Ranks in Marvel Rivals?

Of the eight different ranks in Marvel Rivals, Eternity and One Above All ranks are the highest. However, they are also a little different from the rest. They do not have tiers or require any specific number of rank points for the next tier promotion. When you get promoted to Eternity, you just then have to rack up as many points as possible. At the end of a season, the top 500 players with the highest rank points will ascend to One Above All.

Nevertheless, the perk of being among the top 500 comes with the additional responsibility of regularly staying active in the game. A certain period of inactivity will trigger rank decay which will result in rank demotion to, for instance, Grandmaster I if you were previously Eternity.

Unranked vs Competitive Modes

Marvel Rivals team matches consist of both unranked and ranked quick matches. The unranked quick matches consist of Domination, Convoy, and Convergence. The ranked quickmatch counterparts are also essentially the same except for having multiple rounds in Convoy and Convergence modes where the first team sets the bar while escorting. During the second round, if the second team surpasses the objective set by the first team, they win.

How Can I Unlock the Competitive Playlist

When you first play Marvel Rivals, you will have all of your competitive playlists locked. To unlock it, you must first spend a few hours playing unranked quick plays and make sure to reach level 10. At this point, the competitive playlist will automatically unlock for you.

Can I Play Marvel Rivals Competitive with Friends?

Yes, you can play competitive matches with friends in Marvel Rivals. However, unlike unranked, you can only team up with friends with adjacent ranks to yours. For instance, you can only pair up with diamond players at max if you're gold rank.

How Is My Rank Calculated?

Ranking in Marvel Rivals is determined by way of rank points. When you win matches, you earn rank points; when you are on a losing streak, you lose rank points. For every 100 points earned, you get promoted by one-tier. If you're already at the highest sub-division of a rank, you will ascend to the next rank. For example, from Diamond I to Grandmaster III.

Chrono Shields in Marvel Rivals?

In Marvel Rivals, Chrono shields are your safety net that temporarily stops you from falling down a tier rank. Consecutive losses result in rank points deduction which leads to a lower rank than the one you currently have.

However, do note that you only have a limited number of Chrono Shields and once they are depleted, winning matches is your only way to increase and maintain your rank in the Marvel Rivals competitive mode.
