Following the competitive hero shooter game's release, Marvel Rivals has been all but a crucial success for Netease Games. Admittedly, there has been much hype around the game, and the excited Marvel fans couldn't wait to try it out.
Even after one month of its release, Marvel Rivals shows no sign of dying. Not only has this improved the game's image, but it has also laid a path forward to success for developers who are determined to cash in on this opportunity and continue releasing new content in Marvel Rivals to keep the competitive scene alive and filled with players.
We'll start with the current meta of heroes and then proceed to the upcoming Season 1 leaks circulating online. With that said, if you've any issues ranking up in the hero shooter game, consider getting some Marvel Rivals boost and start experiencing the game at its best!
Adam Warlock
Adam Warlock, an incredible cosmic entity, possesses healing and defensive powers. He can heal his teammates with energy-based abilities and create shields, and when he's in combat, he can defend himself using the quantum cocoon. But his ultimate power is the ability to resurrect the entire team, meaning any ally that falls will be brought back to life and reinstated.
Black Panther
As Black Panther, T'Challa has superhuman speed and agility when fighting. His Vibranium suit gives him incredible speed and protection, allowing him to move quickly across any battleground. Moreover, he attacks with his razor-sharp claws, which make him a deadly option in close-range battles. The ability to dodge incoming attacks while striking opponents makes Black Panther the fan-favorite duelist among Marvel Rival players.
Black Widow
Black Widow is an assassin duelist in Marvel Rivals. She's meant for ranged combat and espionage. With a high-tech sniper rifle, she's able to take out her enemies before they become a threat to anyone else. In addition, as someone who works in the shadows, her gadgets provide battlefield manipulation, setting traps and taking out enemies without them even knowing she's there. Black Widow is not meant to be a close-and-personal hero; she's the best from the sideline, picking off villains one by one.
Captain America
The super-soldier plays in battle with his comrades and uses his Vibranium shield as a weapon. While the shield helps block attacks, he can also use it as a projectile, knocking down opponents and interrupting their abilities. He's an excellent choice for the front line as an enhanced strategist with superhuman strength, speed, and exceptional leadership skills.
Cloak and Dagger
Cloak and Dagger are the ultimate superhero duo in Marvel Rivals, with their powers working in tandem to vanquish foes. Dagger's abilities of light ensnare the opponent, while Cloak can teleport across a battleground, avoid attacks, and take out opponents by surprise. Their teamwork makes them unpredictable, offering a mix of mobility, support, and powerful attacks.
Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange is a unique strategist on this list because his powers are not of this world. He can cast spells, create shields, open portals, and even bend time. Doctor Strange excels in combat and, with his Cloak of Levitation, he can fly at will, using energy blasts and defensive spells for a decisive victory.
Groot
Groot is an excellent tanking character as he can manipulate the environment around the battlefield. Groot traps enemies in place, immobilizing them since they cannot move, and his thorns further deal AOE damage. He also can grow a shield to absorb damage that would otherwise go to teammates, as well as restrict movement. As such, he's a natural defender.
Hawkeye
Hawkeye, aka Clint Barton, is a master archer duelist. He's a long-range hero with a bow and arrow that allows for great potential for headshot damage. Unlike traditional snipers, he also has a sword that parries and shoves enemies away, preventing damage taken in close-range combat. His ultimate power is a charged bow with which he can unleash a barrage of arrows in rapid succession.
Hela
The duelist Hela fights with the advantage of the underworld and her minions at her beck and call. She can call the dead to join her in battle and can also send crows to fight for her. Hela fights with blinding speed and precision, leaving a trail of carnage in her wake. She's a powerful, badass figure who does not fight with concern for the morality of her opponents.
Hulk
Hulk is a tank; his entire persona exists in going from Bruce Banner to the raging green giant whenever he wants. As a raging green giant, he attacks enemies with his massive fists that cause significant damage and penetrate defenses against opponents. Yet when he returns to being a normal Bruce Banner, he has his trusted pistol weapon to protect him.
Iron Fist
The Iron Fist is Lin Lie. He's a duelist, possessing the speed and precision to effectively take out enemies. According to the in-game lore, he's tasked with protecting K’un Lun from the Timestream Entanglement. In Marvel Rivals matches you can use the Iron Fist power to punch and send enemies sprawling—which will come in handy when dueling. Therefore, playing as this character will provide some of the best powers in the game, as you'll be able to dodge and punch at just the right moment.
Iron Man
The Iron Man is Tony Stark, the duelist super-soldier in a technologically enhanced suit. His repulsor blasts let him shoot from afar, and Stark could take down foes without them even knowing they had been struck. Jet-powered flight allows Iron Man to soar to great heights, flank enemies, and take them out by surprise.
Jeff the Land Shark
Jeff the Land Shark might not be the mightiest hero, but he is one of the cutest! This little nibble made his first appearance as the pet of Gwenpool, although he also swims with Deadpool and Kate Bishop. However, don't let cuteness deceive you; he's still an effective combatant. Jeff is fast, hard to pin down, and punches with the force of a brick wall.
Loki
Loki, also known as the God of Mischief, is the ultimate trickster in Marvel Rivals because he always has his foes on their toes. He can transform into his foes, mimic their moves, and use their powers against them. He operates from the shadows, and no opponent can get too comfortable around him since they wouldn’t know if they're battling the real Loki or a decoy.
Luna Snow
Luna Snow is a K-pop ice-powered superhero who can utilize her powers for both offensive and healing. She can freeze an enemy in place while she skates across the battleground. She can switch between healing her comrades or enhancing her attacks. This makes her a dynamic and flexible character capable of operating from within the fray or outside of it.
Magik
Magik—Illyana Rasputin—excels in magic and melee combat. As a duelist and the wielder of the Soulsword, she slices through enemies with casual ease and no remorse. She can transform into her more powerful self, adding to the damage she's capable of, rendering her absolutely feared. Her spells can weaken enemies as well as control the battlefield.
Magneto
Magneto is the leader of the Brotherhood of Mutants. He can manipulate magnetism, which aids him in combat. He's a tanky character, meaning that although he can take much damage, Magneto can also use it against the opponent for a solid counter. In addition, he can raise metal objects in and around him and throw them, resulting in impalement and projectile kills against opponents.
Mantis
Mantis Mantis is a supporting hero—part of the Guardians of the Galaxy—with empathic powers. Beyond her powers of emotional control (healing allies, debuffing enemies), she's a skilled martial artist and can hold her own in fisticuffs if need be. She's a perfect addition to any in-game comp.
Moon Knight
Moon Knight is Marc Spector, the selected hero of Khonshu, the God of the Moon from ancient Egypt. He uses ancient weapons for hand-to-hand combat, crescent darts for long-range fighting, and he has a deadly moon blade up close. Let's say he's deadly up close and from far away. His ultimate finisher is a sky portal that unleashes the wrath of Khonshu upon the enemy team.
Namor
Namor is the King of Atlantis and fights with a trident. He has water combat powers: absorbing water, sending energy blasts, etc. He can use his powers to force enemies out in the open, granting his teammates easier opportunities to attack. He's an excellent combatant with powerful abilities and agility on land and water.
Peni Parker
Peni Parker is SP//dr's pilot. SP//dr is a mech suit comprised of a robotic body and integument technology controlled by Peni's brainwaves. She’s a newer character in the Spider-Verse comics. Although a strategist, Peni doesn't need to fight, for she has a psychic bond to SP//dr that helps her a bit in battle. As a mech, she travels across the battleground, simultaneously jumping up and down, dealing tremendous damage, and deflecting other attacks.
Psylocke
Psylocke is a trained ninja and psychic with combat skills that keep her deadly at any range. She wields psychic weapons, including a glowing blade and throwing projectiles, allowing her to attack up close and from a distance. Furthermore, she can also teleport across short distances, either to engage in battle more quickly or to escape a fight she cannot win; she also has a short invisibility power, which helps her sneak up on unsuspecting targets.
Punisher
The Punisher is all business. He's a vigilante who gets things done and removes his foes without any nonsense. He's similar to Soldier 76 in the Overwatch game in that he can alternate between his two guns, creates a smoke grenade to limit enemy sight, and sets up a turret for extra mounted gun action — a simple hero to use but challenging to master.
Rocket Raccoon
Raccoon is the techie mutant member of the Guardians of the Galaxy roster and comes loaded with weapons. His explosive powers cause devastating damage as they burn enemies and create chaos in an area of effect. But he, too, can heal and boost damage for others, making him an essential support character in any team. Additionally, it's difficult to hit him since he's so small, and his gadgets help him stay one step ahead of the competition.
Scarlet Witch
Scarlet Witch is arguably one of the most potent magic heroes in the Marvel universe. In Marvel Rivals, she uses her chaos magic to drain energy from the enemy team and power up her attacks. She can also hover above the battlefield, making her hard to hit. Her inclusion in villain gameplay would only be a plus as she's an intense game player and shifts the battle dynamics in her way.
Squirrel Girl
Squirrel Girl is a joke to some, but don't underestimate her! Doreen Green has taken down some of Marvel's most powerful heroes and villains. The addition of a slingshot to her powers to fight within Marvel Rivals, alongside her ability to summon a horde of squirrels to fight against other players, makes Doreen small but mighty. Moreover, her small size and quick movements make her hard to catch.
Spider-Man
The quintessential super hero of the Marvel Universe, Spider-Man plays in Marvel Rivals precisely as you would think. He can swing up and down the board and web and quickly find advantageous positions in critical locations. He can web to hinder opponents or even bind them in place to make his life and the team's life easier on the battlefield.
Star-Lord
Yet another feisty addition to the Marvel Rivals game is Peter Quill or Star-Lord. He loves to fight and has over-the-top acrobatic moves. You can shoot energy blasts from his Element Guns while simultaneously spinning in place and cartwheeling, making it difficult for opponents to punch him in the face.
Storm
Storm, an influential member of the X-Men, commands the weather to dominate the battlefield. She can summon lightning to deal damage, create gusts of wind to knock enemies back, and even boost her team’s speed. Her ability to switch between attacking and supporting makes her a strong hybrid hero.
Thor
Thor is all muscle and godly might. He can smash down with Mjolnir for melee attacks and increase his distance with lightning strikes to zap enemies; therefore, the gameplay experience is highly interactive. His hammer allows him to attack from both close and long range, making him a versatile warrior in the game. He can instantly turn the tide of any battle.
Venom
Venom, the fan-favorite symbiote hero, is a deadly mix of speed, strength, and crowd control. He can grab multiple enemies simultaneously, trapping them before dealing massive damage. His ability to swing through the battlefield makes him highly mobile, and his Diving Strike lets him slam into enemies, knocking them into the air. He’s perfect for players who love aggressive, high-mobility characters with robust area control.
Winter Soldier
Winter Soldier is the only other character in the game who matches Venom in speed, power, and crowd control. Venom can grab a bunch of foes at a time and keep them stuck in place before his arm delivers devastating punches, launching enemies into the air with an uppercut. But there’s more—his arm appears infected by a symbiote, allowing it to extend into deadly tentacles that whip enemies.
Wolverine
Wolverine is the definition of a fighter. He can go toe to toe with any enemy using his claws. He can extend them whenever he wants, cutting through skin, muscle, and maybe even cartilage and bone. No matter how much damage he takes, he stays in the fight, regardless of the damage done to him, because his healing factor ensures he'll return to a fighting stance in mere moments. His signature team-up, the Fastball Special, where the green giant throws him into battle, adds a layer of chaos.
Season 1 Leaks - Invisible Woman, Human Torch, New Game Modes, and More
In this article section, we'll discuss the upcoming leaks on playable characters and game modes that have been either officially confirmed or leaked so far for Marvel Rivals Season 1, which begins on January 10 at 1 AM PT / January 9 at 10 PM ET per NetEase Games. It will debut right after Season 0 concludes, meaning there shouldn't be too much server downtime—or at least if there is, NetEase hasn't teased any.
What happens when Season 1 kicks off? A new battle pass, which we can only hope is longer than the one for Season 0. Remember, battle passes never expire in Marvel Rivals, so if you haven't completed the Season 0 battle pass yet, no worries.
Based on the leaks, Marvel Rivals is all set to introduce many new game modes and heroes to the roster. This was further confirmed when, On January 6, NetEase Games revealed a trailer giving us the first look at the Fantastic Four (Invisible Woman, Human Torch, The Thing, and Mr. Fantastic).
We know the Fantastic Four will be divided across Season 1, with two available at launch. Invisible Woman (Strategist) and Mr. Fantastic (Duelist) arrive at the Season 1 launch, while Human Torch (Duelist) and The Thing (Strategist) arrive at the Season 1 midseason.
While there is no specific date for the mid-season update nor any related leak, Marvel Rival should have an update around late February or early March, as the seasons are three months long. In addition, a dev diary revealed that Season 1 brings four new heroes instead of the previously projected two. This means that although future seasons will also get two new heroes, they'll be released during the season at different times.
However, while Season 1 will likely add the Fantastic Four, many heroes have also been leaked to come to Marvel Rivals for Season 1—and potentially with a mid-season update. These leaked heroes might remain for Season 2 or beyond or be entirely cut. Below are the leaked heroes from various leakers on Twitter, such as @MRivalsUpdates and @RivalsLeaks.
Leaked heroes:
- Angela
- Blade
- Captain Marvel
- Deadpool
- Emma Frost
- Hit-Monkey
- Jean Grey (Phoenix)
- M.O.D.O.K.
- The Hood
- Ultron (rumored to be a Season 1 hero)
- Valkyrie
NetEase Games have not officially confirmed multiple maps for Season 1; however, there are some leaks. Leaker @FumoLeaks scrapped some data and found three possibilities. The first two are Krakoa and Arakko—the islands made by the X-Men during some of their comic arcs—and then a New York map. Similar to many of the maps in Marvel Rivals, there could be different maps for each location depending on the game mode—just like Wakanda has a payload map and point capture map in Marvel Rivals; it's just separate gameplay—and a New York map could easily have multiple game modes, too. In addition, leaker @XOX_Leak tweeted, "New York = EMPIRE OF ETERNAL NIGHT." From some dialogue with Spidey during a match and Cloak and Dagger's biographical text, it is suggested Dracula runs New York. This leaker also indicated that the other map would be Thebes, Egypt.
Thanks to NetEase, which confirmed the Dracula-controlled New York map by releasing the Fantastic Four game's cinematic trailer. A press release further clarified that the new maps for Season 1 are all New York-based; the Sanctum Sanctorum and Midtown new maps are coming with the season, and a Central Park new map will arrive with the midseason update.
Blade x Cloak and Dagger x Moon Knight, Emma Frost x Magneto - Discover All New Team Ups
Team-ups in Marvel Rivals are special powers gained when certain characters are part of the same team. Currently, some team-ups are indicated as seasonal enhancements, meaning they might be removed. We're unsure whether old team-ups are being replaced or new team-ups are being added. However, many team-ups have been leaked before the formal announcement from NetEase Games. Whether these team-ups apply only to Season 1 is unclear—Season 1 is confusing as some characters are not officially revealed. From @XOX_Leak, the following list does not appear to be the definitive list of expected new team-ups for Season 1.
- Squirrel Girl x Rocket Racoon
- Storm x Human Torch
- Wolverine x The Thing x Hulk
- Wolverine x Phoenix
- Wolverine x Magik x Psylocke x Black Panther (may have been abandoned according to leakers)
- Blade x Cloak and Dagger x Moon Knight
- Emma Frost x Magneto
- Emma Frost x Psylocke
