GTA 6 System Requirements for PC, Download Size Prediction
Expected GTA 6 System Requirements And Release Date
Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) is undoubtedly the most anticipated release of this decade. Developed by Rockstar Games, the GTA series is the most popular gaming franchise of all time, competing with greats like Halo, God of War, and more. The upcoming entry is boosting the franchise like no previous release.
The first trailer for the next installment in Rockstar Games’ revolutionary series dropped back in December 2023 with a tentative 2025 release window. However, we haven’t received any update in a while, so we aren’t sure what’s going on internally.
Nonetheless, fans are already excited and want to know whether their PCs will be able to meet the system requirements for Grand Theft Auto VI once it gets unveiled. We don’t have any information from the studio, but we can take an educated guess.
GTA 6 System Requirements
It is tricky to guess GTA 6 PC system requirements right now, even more so as the game isn’t initially expected to launch for PC gamers. It will first arrive on the current-gen consoles, PlayStation and Xbox Series, and then make its way over to PC.
So, the PC is expected to get the best version of the title with all the updates and optimizations. Generally, we’ve seen that the requirements for Rockstar Games’ titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 or older GTA games haven’t been too astronomical, and they are usually well-optimized.
The same is expected of GTA 6. So, for instance, if you have a PC that can run most modern AAA titles with decent frame rates, chances are you’ll be able to experience the game with decent visual fidelity and good FPS. But let's jump into the anticipated system requirements for GTA 6 / GTA Online.
Minimum GTA 6 System Requirements
GTA 6 / GTA Online probably won’t be easy to run. We don’t know what to expect. However, we can take some of the most demanding recent games as a reference and guess the minimum system requirements for the title.
For instance, most new AAA games require at least an 8th gen Intel Core i7 processor or an equivalent AMD CPU. For graphics cards, at least an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1660 or GTX 1070 / Radeon RX 5700 is required, paired with 16GB of memory. Here is a complete detail of the expected minimum GTA 6 system requirements:
- OS: Windows 10 or newer (64-bit)
- Processor: Intel Core i7-8700K, Intel Core i5-10400F/ AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
- Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super/AMD Radeon RX 5700
- Memory: 16 GB
- DirectX Version: 12
- Storage: 200 GB of SSD Space
If your PC meets the above-given minimum system requirements, you can push good FPS in Rockstar Games' GTA 6 at lower settings. Older Intel Core processors and graphics cards like Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080ti or AMD Radeon equivalent with higher VRAM might also be able to handle the game. For a more immersive experience, you'll have to upgrade your PC.
Recommended GTA 6 System Requirements
Recommended GTA 6 requirements will likely require a huge bump from the minimum requirements. To play the title at 1080p or even 2K, a graphics card like an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon RX 6800XT will be required, matched with an equally powerful Intel Core or AMD CPU. These expected recommended system requirements could be:
- OS: Windows 11 (64-bit)
- Processor: Intel Core i7-11700K/ AMD Ryzen 7 5800X or better
- Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080/ AMD Radeon RX 6800XT, or better (maybe higher for Ray Tracing)
- Memory: 16 GB or higher
- DirectX Version: 12
- Storage: 200 GB of SSD Space
Now, for smoother gameplay and at 4K and more advanced graphics or even with ray tracing, you might even need newer Intel Core or AMD CPUs and graphics cards like the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 or the upcoming Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 or AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX, but the ones mentioned above are recommended specs, that are expected to run the game at a decent frame rate with high settings or ultra settings.
Can I Run GTA 6 On My PC?
If you have modern hardware and at least an Nvidia RTX card, chances are you can run Rockstar Games' GTA VI close to its recommended specs. Furthermore, many more things come into play since the release of upscaling tech like Nvidia DLSS, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS.
While DLSS is native to Nvidia graphics cards, FSR is available for most modern cards, which helps significantly increase frame rates without compromising the visuals too much. Frame generation, too, further boosts FPS.
If you have a new Intel, Nvidia GeForce GTX, or AMD GPU, you can run Grand Theft Auto 6 well, just not at ultra settings.
How Big Will GTA 6 Be?
One thing you can be quite sure of is that it won’t be a small game. We’ve seen linear games with immaculate advanced graphics like God of War: Ragnarök hitting 150 GB of download size, so Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to be similar, if not more, in size.
However, considering that it is going to be an open world and Grand Theft Auto 5 already weighs in at over 100 GB, we wouldn’t be surprised if GTA 6 requires at least 200 GB of free storage on your drive and could measure anywhere from 150-180 GB in size.
When Is GTA 6 Coming Out?
This is most people's biggest question right now, as Rockstar only gave a rough 2025 window. Since then, many reports have emerged, revealing that the release could be pushed to 2026.
It was recently reported that Rockstar doesn’t want to push its developers too much as it doesn’t want to take any chances with the game. Grand Theft Auto 6 will be highly ambitious, and if releasing it in its best form requires a delay, the studio will do it.
Amid the 2026 delay rumors, many reports still point toward a fall 2025 release. Things aren’t looking too good for the PC version, as the wait will be much longer. Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to have exclusivity for at least a year or slightly more for next-gen consoles.
After that, the PC release will happen. Granted, PC users will get the best form of the game, but this also means they might have to wait until 2027, or even more, depending on when the game finally comes out.
Nevertheless, the next Grand Theft Auto game is expected to deliver the most enhanced graphics the company has ever produced with its Rockstar Advanced Gaming Engine. Also, note that the above system PC requirements are just anticipated; Rockstar Games will confirm the actual.
