What is my Riot ID?

Your Riot ID combines your game name and a 3–5 character tagline. This pairing allows for unique Riot IDs for every player while also enabling teammates to share the same game name with different taglines.

How Often Can You Change Name in Valorant?

Unlike other gaming industry giants, Riot Games allows you to change your Riot ID (your Val name) once every 90 days. However, if you’ve already made a change and need to update your Riot game name again before the 90-day wait period, there’s one exception available.

Riot offers support when adverse effects of your Riot ID arise (such as harassment). To request a change under such circumstances, you must contact Riot support by opening a player ticket and explaining the situation.

Is It Free Riot ID Change or Is There a Fee Involved?

No, there is no fee involved in changing your Valorant name. After every 90 days, you can change your Riot ID for free once.

Does Changing Your Valorant Name Affect Your Name in League of Legends?

Riot ID is cross-game. Suppose you plan to update your tagline in Valorant and wonder if it will update everywhere else yes. Updating your tagline and Riot ID in Valorant will change it across all Riot games, like League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics.

Keep this in mind if you have multiple accounts to avoid any unintended changes across your games.

Can I Skip the 30-day Wait Period to Change Riot ID?

The 30-day wait period is no longer available. Riot updated it to 90 days as of November 2023. As such, you can change your Valorant display name only once every 90 days.

VALORANT Name Rules and Guidelines

When creating or updating your Riot ID display name, keep these rules in mind:

  • Game Names (e.g., "Player123") must be 3 to 16 characters long and not contain any offensive or inappropriate names or grotesque imagery. Special characters are acceptable, though.
  • Taglines (e.g., "#1234") must contain 3 to 5 characters and cannot include default region codes like NA1, EUW, or KR. Once updated, you cannot revert to these region-based codes.
  • The Game Name and tagline must comply with Riot’s community guidelines and be free of offensive language and hate speech.
  • Unlike most usernames, other players can have the same name as your Game Name if your tagline is different.

If your chosen Riot ID is already in use, you must modify the Game Name or Tagline to make it unique.

How To Change Your Valorant Riot Account Username?

Unlike your Riot ID, your Riot account Valorant username cannot be updated. This Valorant username is a unique identifier tied to your correct account. However, this account name doesn’t appear in games and is only used to log in, so there’s no need to worry about others seeing it in any in-game match, including players in your friends list.
